I have two choices with sumo deads… be a lil pansy with the weight and really REALLY focus on over exaggerating and “stalling” or “grinding” the contraction, “leading with my glutes” and then a big squeeze at the top, or STRETCH my glutes and hip flexors so my tightness doesn’t force me to compromise my form, improving strength and reducing risk of injury.
Even though I can mentally execute a beautiful sumo dead, heavy with proper form, the tightness in my glutes and hips draws my knees inward before every lift, as you can see. I spend all my energy trying to keep proper alignment instead of feeling comfortable enough to lift heavy. Definitely need to up my stretching game so I can then lift heavier AND emphasize the contraction! Win win win overall. Lesson: STRETCH! ✌🏼#iambuilt #soinflexible #must #stretch @justindlovato
